Whereas Y cables send the same signal to the split, insert cables take the signal from the TRS and split it into two different signals to each of the TS plugs. A Y cable and an insert cable are not the same thing. Insert cables are commonly used with accessing the send/return on a mixer insert and to split the stereo output carried on one TRS jack to separate left and right signals on the TS connectors.
